Life is full of adventures, full of discoveries, and full of firsts.
Like the first time you pet a dog, the first time you stepped in dog poop, your first kiss, the first time a sunset took your breath away, the first time you bit into an eclair and the creamy filling made you want to change your name to eclair so that you could eat them every day. Was that just me?
There’s something about firsts that live in your heart forever.
Like Diane, the first person to order my Take Flight raw superfood brownies in place of birthday cake for her daughter.
Raw Superfood Brownies as Health Food
I met Dianne at one of my good friend’s parties where I had brought my sinfully nutritious superfood brownies as my—BFF, cover your hostess butt, make your party guests love you— offering. Diane and her three beautiful teenage children, Jessi, Ali, and Tyler were ooo-ing and ah-ing over the brownies.
Being vegan and aware of eating for health, way to go Dianne, they couldn’t get over how delicious the brownies were and how good they were actually for you. This is customary at every party I bring my health sustaining supportive treats too.
Feeling Guilty At First
It starts with people seeing the raw superfood brownies and feeling guilty that they are tempted to eat them. After all, looking at them, they look like the brownies you loved growing up. You know the Duncan Hines kind. Then they find out that there is no gluten, no sugar, no dairy in them and that they can enjoy the raw superfood brownies without any fear or worry that they are eating something bad for them.
Then they take a bite and….their eyes light up and get all sparkly, followed by a “oh my God, these are amazing” followed by, “these have no sugar?!” “these have no flour?!” “these are actually good for me?!” Followed by several more, “oh my god, oh my god’s”.
And then they are off to enjoy the rest of the party with a little more spring in their step. Figuratively and…literally.
More Energy More Life with Maca
One of the superfood ingredients I use in my superfood raw brownies is Maca. Maca, is a root that belongs in the radish family, and grows in the mountains of Peru. It’s often referred to as “Peruvian ginseng.” I discovered it a few years ago in Peru in search of healing food.
Maca boosts many health benefits, including vitamins B and C, calcium, zinc, magnesium, phosphorous, amino acids, even iron.
It has been found to help with women’s health, lift your libido, heal wounds, aid in cardiovascular health, clear acne and blemishes, aid in calming anxiety, stress, depression and mood swings, as well as giving you energy. If you’re a recovering Type A like me, you could want it for all those benefits!
Maca doesn’t have a strong taste. It’s a subtle earthy taste that is mildly nutty with a hint of butterscotch. Not what you would expect from a radish, right?! It’s perfect for smoothies, puddings, and raw treats where you won’t lose the nutritional benefits from heat.
Ok back to Dianne.
You Want Two Dozen Brownies?!
Usually at parties, people say they would eat my raw superfood brownies all the time, ask me where they can get them, and I rarely hear from them again. Until they see me at another party, saying I was hoping you would be here with your brownies and that’s when they lock in buying details.
A few months after my good friend’s party, I get a call from Dianne asking to order twenty brownies in place of a birthday cake for her daughter Jessi. Her daughter said of all the things in the world, what would make her happiest for her birthday is to celebrate with my brownies. Her mother even made a point to pick them up from me in Venice dealing with hours of crazy LA traffic in time for her birthday party that same night. Thanks so much Jessi, it was an honor to celebrate your beautiful life in that way.
Lifelicious #1 Fans
That was the first time someone ordered my brownies for a party of their own. Dianne, and Jesi, and Ali, Tyler will always hold that “first” place in my heart.
They have since order many more raw superfood brownies. I guess they would say they are Lifelicious’ number 1 fans.
